I watched “Alone in the Wilderness” last night, and it was one of the most endearing, heartwarming and folksy documentaries I’ve ever seen. Today, I just can’t stop thinking about it. It tells the story of Dick Proenneke, a 51 year old from Iowa, who moves to the Alaska wilderness in the ’60s and builds a permanent homestead there. He lived there alone for the next 35 years, and recorded film of himself and the nature surrounding him. After his death in 2003, a filmmaker produced three films from his footage and meticulous notes.
I’m not sure if anyone else will find it as interesting or entrancing as me, but here is the first ten minutes of “Alone in the Wilderness.” If you like it, I highly encourage you to watch the rest of this film, as well as the other two films in this series:

After nine heart surgeries, “Harmonica Man” Andy Mackie stopped his prescriptions and used the money to spread the joy of music to kids. This video is guaranteed to make your day better. Also, it shows that there’s nothing that will extend your life more than having mission and a positive outlook on things.

This video takes the first 30 seconds of the Apollo 11 launch and slows it down to 8 minutes of interesting analysis. This went viral a few days ago, and I should have posted it then, but better late than never!

As was to be expected, the new BBC nature series “Life” by David Attenborough is absolutely incredible. I’ve been watching this since the beginning, and I’ve gotta say, these are the two single most amazing clips so far:

It not only takes the dude twice as long to build a house, but it’s covered in a thick layer of hammers afterwards.
