A guy name Greg Rutter has created a website called You Should Have Seen This, which features a “Definitive List of The 99 Things You Should Have Already Experienced On The Internet Unless You’re a Loser or Old or Something.”
It’s a list of 99 of the most famous online videos and memes that Greg believes everyone should have seen. I scored 93 / 99, and for the most part, I think this is a good list. (The 6 videos that I hadn’t seen are posted below.)
I would, however, say that some items aren’t nearly on the same level as others. Some of the clips below have only 60,000 hits — which is peanuts compared to the 114 million that true viral hits like “Evolution of Dance” have. Not to mention the the thousands of excluded YouTube videos with millions of more views…where are the more popular web hits like LonelyGirl15, Smosh, Shoes, Yo Dawg, Ninja Cat and Cooking by the Book?
Anyway, Give it a try! How many have you seen?
(Thanks to Jason Sheridan for sending this along.)
Unintentionally hilarious commercial for a magician how-to tape…aimed at playas.
Flamboyant referee — look how he runs! This one is really funny.
A Japanese family has adopted a pet penguin, who wears a backpack and can walk to the fish market on its own! Incredible!
Children’s two-piece band is remarkably good for their age!

Mr. Rogers has got to be the most genuine, caring and compassionate person in the history of television. I grew up on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, (as did just about every American kid born in the last 40 years), and it was such an important part of my childhood. Today, I stumbled across this clip of Fred Rogers defending PBS to the U.S. Senate in 1969. It’s absolutely touching.
Thirty years later, here is Mr. Rogers saying good-bye on one of the final episodes of Neighborhood. What an amazing man. I wish I had even one ounce of Mr. Rogers’ character.

And so, the epic battle of the infomercial tycoons begins. Vince of ShamWow / SlapChop fame had better watch out. Billy Mays is going to deliver the SHAMPOW!
And just because I love you, here’s a classic Billy Mays moment — the BIG CITY SLIDERS:

Awww, how I miss Japan. This is a really cool shot, and really captures all aspects of the restaurant. I would love to use this in a movie someday.

This music video is really awesome, but the guy in it strikes me as kind of a pretentious hipster douche. I’m torn.
Oh, and here’s Biggy’s original. One of the most ridiculous music videos / action movies ever made:

“Over 1000 cuts. 6 hours of guitar tabbing. 1 hour of shooting. God knows how much editing.” (This is awesome, though a few of the notes seem to be off.)

U.S. Airways has released the blackbox cockpit recordings of the final few minutes before Flight 1549 crash landed into the Hudson. Really amazing stuff. The pilot was such a hero, and so calm under the circumstances!
