Video blogger canzona did an interesting experiment in video compression, to test out the effects of a thousand generations of encoding on the original source, via YouTube. You can see all 1,000 generations on his YouTube channel, but here are the original and the final version. Neat!

I don’t normally post things that are this heavy on Pie Heaven, but this video really got to me. The Gulf Oil Spill is getting increasingly out of control, and it is now clear that this is one of the worst disasters that has ever faced our country. Every attempt BP has made to control the spill has failed, and aside from drilling a relief well (which takes 3 months), they have not presented any other viable solution. The whole situation makes me feel sick.
This is the first underwater video that has been released of the oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico that shows truly how bad it is. Look how fast that oil is spilling out…and this is only one of three different leaks. This is not a minor problem, this is a disaster:
The whole situation is so dire…it makes me, and it seems, everyone else, feel completely helpless.
