Filmed in Bavaria, Germany. Skiers are towed by cars and motorcycles travelling at great speed. I love the kitschy old-fashioned ’50s style of this video. (Thanks Sean Brogan)

I saw this in a film studies class a few years ago, and stumbled across it on YouTube again today. It’s mostly remarkable because it’s so old. “An essential piece of cinema history, the Lumière brothers’ 50-second film is an unedited shot of a locomotive pulling into a provincial French station. It’s often credited as the first movie exhibited for a paying audience; several spectators reportedly dove for cover, convinced the train would break through the screen. Even at this early date, the impact of cinema was enormous.”

In just under six minutes, you can take a (mostly) stop-motion trip to 1983 New York City in this short film called “N.Y.C. (No York City)” by Rick Liss.

This is a promo video for the 1992 Bally Pinball “The Addams Family.” I never realized that pinball machines were so complicated and intricate…this video was fascinating to me. Like revealing a whole new subculture I didn’t know existed.

“In 1964, Lyndon Johnson needed pants, so he called the Haggar clothing company and asked for some. The call was recorded (like all White House calls at the time), and has since become the stuff of legend.”
