This is a promo video for the 1992 Bally Pinball “The Addams Family.” I never realized that pinball machines were so complicated and intricate…this video was fascinating to me. Like revealing a whole new subculture I didn’t know existed.

“Reuben Margolin, a Bay Area visionary and longtime maker, creates totally singular techno-kinetic wave sculptures. Using everything from wood to cardboard to found and salvaged objects, Reubens artwork is diverse, with sculptures ranging from tiny to looming, motorized to hand-cranked. Focusing on natural elements like a discrete water droplet or a powerful ocean eddy, his work is elegant and hypnotic.”

The researchers conclude that a male, 28-year-old Han Chinese man is the most typical person on the planet. There are 9 million of them. But there’s a lot more interesting stuff in this video than that.

This video will only appeal to mega-geeks like me, but I found it very interesting. The creator manages to upgrade through every version of Windows, and amazingly, a lot of settings carry over from generation to generation, even 15 years of products later.
Microsoft receives a lot of flack, but with a 90% share of the operating system market, they have a responsibility (more than any other company) to provide backwards compatibility and upgradability for their products. This is a pretty amazing testament to their software — you can upgrade from their original Windows 1.0 Operating System released in 1985, all the way up to Windows 7, on shelves today. (And for all you Mac freaks, no, you can not do this with Apple OS products. Each major version basically reinvents the wheel and you have to install fresh, backwards compatibility be damned. It’s a different philosophy for software development, but I thought it should be noted.)

“When technology blurs the line between reality and digital illusion, it is impossible to tell the difference between our world and The System. Get connected.”
